Companhia Siderúrgica Pitangui exhibits nodular, gray and steelmaking pig iron

Companhia Siderúrgica Pitangui takes advantage of Metalurgia 2010 to strengthen interaction with customers and show nodular, gray and steelmaking pig iron differentials. The nodular pig iron is obtained by means of a small addition of magnesium to the liquid carbon bath, resulting in spheroidal graphite. It has technological characteristics similar to gray iron, but with superior mechanical properties, with high ductility, elasticity and mechanical strength combined with corrosion resistance, easy casting and machinability. The nodular pig iron can be customized according to the technical needs required by the customer and is used in the manufacture of automotive and special parts.

The gray pig iron is the raw material most used in the production of casted parts, since it is a material with high fluidity in a liquid state, capable of producing thin parts and with rich details. It has excellent ability for machining, good abrasion resistance, vibration damping capacity and corrosion resistance, with application uses in water pipes and industry in general.

The steelmaking pig iron is the raw material of steel. For its high iron content (equal to or more than 95%) and for being produced in vegetable charcoal, which ensures a purer product with very low levels of sulfur and excellent reactivity, Siderúrgica Pitangui’s pig iron for steelmaking has unquestionably higher quality.
